The Green Belt

The Maasduinen (dunes) in Limburg form a special area in the Netherlands. The area stretches from the municipalities of Mook and Middelaar in the northern tip of Limburg to Belfeld (near Venlo) in the south. The nature of the Maasduinen in Limburg is unique, with heathlands, drifting sands, forests and, of course, the Meuse river. During harvest season, the asparagus cultivation shows its striking, elongated beds. Enjoy the wonderful Maasduinen, explore nature and the many attractions in the region! In Maasduinen, you will find pretty town squares where the spirit of the community can still be felt. Arcen is a former fortified town and enjoys a beautiful location by the Meuse. The ruins of the “De Schanstoren” tollgate and the unfinished canal “De Fossa Eugeniana” mark the town's history. The many terraces and restaurants, the National Park, the Meuse river and the various lakes all make a visit here more than worthwhile!
